Watercolor on Yupo22" x 26" Available $1,200.00 USD
'Tempest' was inspired by some awesome storms which swept through our area during the early summer. Glad to be safely at home and sheltered, the wind whipped up to such a degree it topped out above 50mph. I had never seen our trees bend and creak the way they did that day. There was such energy, movement and power, it felt exhilarating to witness.
In early summer the colors of nature were saturated and fresh, everything was full of lustrous color from all that rain. Above the roar of the rain and the din on the roof I could smell the fresh earth, my senses were full in every sense of the word, and I was left with a profound feeling of respect for the power of nature.
The use of Yupo paper in this piece was chosen to allow my watercolor paints to maintain their full saturated colors. The surface of this paper is such that paint will move around freely until I'm happy with its final design. The exciting interaction of the pigments expressed the energy of that day. Finally carving out shapes gave me greater freedom to demonstrate the movement of the branches of the trees.
